Poland's energy and power generation sector is a critical component of the nation's economy and infrastructure, characterized by a diverse mix of energy sources and a complex landscape of power generation facilities. With a total installed capacity of 50.8 gigawatts (GW) spread across 238 power plants, the sector is heavily reliant on traditional fossil fuels, particularly coal, which underpins the majority of electricity generation in the country.

The Polish government has acknowledged the need for a transition to a low-carbon economy and has set ambitious targets for increasing renewable energy capacity in the coming years. Poland's commitment to the European Union's climate goals necessitates a shift away from coal, aligning with broader global trends towards sustainability and carbon neutrality.

However, the transition to renewable energy sources presents several challenges for Poland. Key obstacles include the need for significant investment in infrastructure, technology, and grid modernization.
