Sultartangi is a 120 MW hydroelectric power plant located in Iceland, operated by Landsvirkjun since its commissioning in 1999. The facility harnesses the energy of flowing water to generate electricity. It is the 6th largest hydro plant in Iceland. With 120 MW, it represents 6.27% of Iceland's total hydro capacity of 1,913 MW. Iceland has 14 hydro plants with a combined capacity of 1,913 MW. Compared to the largest hydro plant, Fljótsdalsvirkjun (Kárahnjúkar) at 690 MW, this facility is about 17.4% the size. Hydropower is a vital part of Iceland's renewable energy mix, providing around 70% of the country's electricity generation. The Sultartangi plant utilizes the region's abundant water resources, contributing to sustainability goals. The facility is located approximately 200 km east of Reykjavik in the eastern region of Iceland.
