Tianlong Lake Hydropower Station— 180 MW Wasserkraft
Situated in the heart of China, the 天龙湖水电站 (Tian Long Hu Hydropower Station) ranks as the 1284th largest power generation facility in the country, a significant position within a vast landscape of 4,430 plants that collectively produce an astounding 1,603,494 MW of power, predominantly from coal. With a capacity of 180 MW, this facility is the 245th within the 1,000 hydro plants in China, contributing a mere 0.01% to the national capacity. The technology employed at Tian Long Hu leverages the natural flow of water, effectively converting it into renewable energy, which is crucial for diversifying the country’s energy portfolio. This power station is surrounded by several other hydro facilities, including the nearby Seergu and Liuping plants, with capacities of 150 MW and 120 MW respectively, highlighting a regional commitment to hydroelectric power. The presence of multiple hydro plants within close proximity not only enhances the reliability of electricity supply but also contributes to the stability of the local grid. In the context of China's energy profile, coal remains the dominant fuel source, but the government’s initiatives to increase the share of renewables are evident. Operated by a state-owned entity, Tian Long Hu was developed in a period where hydropower was increasingly recognized for its potential in addressing energy security and environmental challenges. Looking forward, Tian Long Hu's role will be vital in supporting China’s ambitious goals for reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable energy practices.
