Hydrogen Energy: Tanaka Opens 500 kW Pure Hydrogen Fuel Cell Facility in Japan

Japan-based Tanaka has launched a facility with the country's largest pure hydrogen fuel cell power, equipped with Toshiba's H2Rex pure hydrogen fuel cell system, which has a power capacity of 500 kW. The system, consisting of five 100 kW units, can provide approximately 34% of the electricity to the company's Shonan Factory.

According to Tanaka, the system has an efficiency of 95% and offers an operating life of around 80,000 hours. Additionally, the system is designed to be used in coastal environments and port areas, and can operate independently. The system is also equipped with an energy management system (EMS) that provides a load follow response speed five times faster than traditional systems.

John Cockerill Hydrogen has manufactured and installed a 5 MW electrolyzer in France, which the company describes as the largest single-stack pressurized electrolyzer available on the market. The company has announced plans to produce eight additional electrolyzers with a total capacity of 40 MW for a project in the Netherlands.

D3 Energy has independently certified a helium and hydrogen system identified during an exploration campaign in the Arckaringa Basin in Australia. The company reported hydrogen concentrations of up to 11.5% across the prospects. The certified estimates include three resource scenarios: a minimum volume that can be recovered with at least a 90% probability, a statistically likely volume, and a maximum volume that can be recovered with a 10% probability.

PowerCell and ECL have signed a strategic partnership agreement to deploy industrial-scale hydrogen fuel cell systems across ECL's artificial intelligence data center platform in California. The agreement includes a firm purchase order for PowerCell PS190 fuel cell systems and a non-binding memorandum of understanding for an additional 300 MW of hydrogen fuel cell capacity as part of ECL's expansion of its FlexGrid data center footprint.

Air Liquide has invested over $160 million to build, own, and operate a production facility in Arizona. The facility, which is expected to be operational in 2028, will provide ultra-high purity gases to a leading semiconductor manufacturer. Air Liquide will also operate hydrogen production and carbon capture units directly at the customer's facility.
