Suwan Energy is a 118 MW gas-fired power plant located in South Korea, operated by KHDC. The facility was commissioned in 2011 and generates electricity using natural gas. Ranked as the 63rd largest gas plant in South Korea, Suwan Energy represents 0.15% of the country's total gas capacity of 76,316 MW. South Korea operates 70 gas plants with a combined capacity of 76,316 MW. In comparison to the largest gas plant, Taean Thermal Power Plant at 6,446 MW, Suwan Energy is roughly 1/55th its size. Gas is a vital component of South Korea's energy landscape, accounting for approximately 30% of electricity generation. The country is focusing on increasing its gas utilization to enhance energy security and lower carbon emissions. The plant is located in the southwestern part of South Korea, close to Gwangju.

Gas power generation is a significant component of the global energy landscape, characterized by the use of natural gas to produce electricity. This process typically involves either gas turbines or combined cycle gas plants. In a gas turbine, compressed air is mixed with natural gas and ignited, producing high-temperature exhaust gases that spin a turbine connected to a generator. Combined cycle plants enhance efficiency by utilizing both gas and steam turbines. After the gas turbine generates electricity, the waste heat is used to produce steam, which drives a steam turbine, thereby maximizing energy extraction from the fuel.
