Sambangalou is a 120 MW hydroelectric power plant located in Senegal. It is currently the only hydro plant in the country, contributing to its total renewable energy capacity. The facility generates electricity using the flow of water from the river. Sambangalou ranks as the 1st and only hydro plant in Senegal. With a capacity of 120 MW, it represents 100% of the country's total hydro capacity of 120 MW. Senegal has a total of 10 power plants with a combined capacity of 696 MW. As the largest hydro plant in Senegal, Sambangalou is the sole provider of hydroelectric power in the nation. Hydropower is essential for Senegal's energy strategy, as it currently provides the only hydroelectric generation in the country. The government aims to diversify energy sources and increase renewable energy contributions. Sambangalou is located in the Casamance region, approximately 200 km southeast of Dakar.
