GuD Bitterfeld is a 106 MW gas-fired power plant located in Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Germany, operated by envia THERM GmbH since its commissioning in 2000. The plant utilizes natural gas to generate electricity. It ranks as the 65th largest gas plant in Germany. With a capacity of 106 MW, it represents 0.35% of Germany's total gas capacity of 30,369 MW. Germany has 199 gas plants with a combined capacity of 30,369 MW. Compared to the largest gas plant, Gersteinwerk at 2,004 MW, this facility is about one-fifteenth the size. Natural gas accounts for approximately 13% of Germany's electricity generation. The GuD Bitterfeld plant supports the transition towards cleaner energy sources while providing flexibility to the grid. It is located around 150 km southwest of Berlin.

Gas power generation is a significant component of the global energy landscape, characterized by the use of natural gas to produce electricity. This process typically involves either gas turbines or combined cycle gas plants. In a gas turbine, compressed air is mixed with natural gas and ignited, producing high-temperature exhaust gases that spin a turbine connected to a generator. Combined cycle plants enhance efficiency by utilizing both gas and steam turbines. After the gas turbine generates electricity, the waste heat is used to produce steam, which drives a steam turbine, thereby maximizing energy extraction from the fuel.
